Many years ago, the Mizrachi Sick Visiting Society incorporated the Melbourne Jewish Sick Visiting and took over its responsibilities. It now operates under the umbrella of the Mizrachi Organisation. The Honorary Visiting Stewards visit many hundreds of Jewish people each year who are in hospital or confined to their homes. This activity is our response to the religious commitment to visit the sick, and we know from the feedback that we receive from letters and phones calls, that the visits are very much appreciated. Obviously patients with little or no family who have difficulty communicating because of language problems are particularly grateful for such visits.

For over 75 years we have been visiting Jewish people in hospitals. Our Stewards spend time with patients and give other assistance if required. It is not our practice to push any religious attitude or belief. Our Stewards are happy to visit any Jewish patients, regardless of their personal religious orientation or even in the absence of one. Obviously, if a patient specifically requests that no such visitors call, then they would respect such a request categorically.
